copy-editing

what it does

When the user wants to edit, review, or improve existing marketing copy, or refresh outdated content. Also use when the user mentions 'edit this copy,' 'review my copy,' 'copy feedback,' 'proofread,' 'polish this,' 'make this better,' 'copy sweep,' 'tighten this up,' 'this reads awkwardly,' 'clean up this text,' 'too wordy,' 'sharpen the messaging,' 'refresh this content,' 'update this page,' 'this content is outdated,' or 'content audit,' 'this sounds like AI,' 'AI slop,' 'de-slop this,' or 'make it sound human.' Use this when the user already has copy and wants it improved or refreshed rather than rewritten from scratch. Every edit removes AI tells such as 'it's not X, it's Y' reveals, 'no X, no Y, no Z' lists, and sentences that trail into extra comma clauses. A request to fix one line gets a point edit that changes only that line. For writing new copy, see copywriting.

Same request, same model, once with the skill and once without. Read both and judge for yourself.

“My client says this copy reads like AI slop. Fix it: 1. Most agencies have a folder of campaign ideas nobody will ever launch. Not because they're bad ideas. Because each one needs a developer. 2. No onboarding call, no spreadsheet templates, no chasing approvals by email. No contract. 3. Reports, alerts, and client dashboards all update straight from the ad accounts you already connected, no exports, no manual refresh, no second copy of the data to maintain.”

with the skill
**Rewrites** 1. Most agencies have a folder of campaign ideas nobody will launch, because each one needs a developer. 2. [NEED: the first step a new customer takes, e.g. "Connect your ad accounts in X minutes."] No contract. 3. Reports, alerts, and client dashboards update straight from the ad accounts you've already connected. [NEED: refresh frequency, e.g. "every X minutes."] The data stays in those accounts, so there's only one version to trust. **What I changed and why** - **Line 1:** The "Not because X. Because Y." split is a contrast-reveal tell. One sentence with "because" says the same thing. I also cut "ever" since it's filler, and the line reads more believably without it. - **Line 2:** "No X, no Y, no Z" is a negation list, and it only says what doesn't happen. I kept "No contract" because it's a real risk reducer, but the line needs something that does happen. I can't write that without knowing your product, so I left a placeholder. - **Line 3:** The sentence kept adding clauses after the claim ("no exports, no manual refresh, no second copy"). I ended it at the claim. The three-item list (reports, alerts, dashboards) stays because there really are three. The last point about not maintaining a second copy of the data is now its own sentence, stated as the benefit. **Still missing** Line 1 sets up the problem (every idea needs a developer), but nothing in these three lines says how the product removes it. If the answer is "no code" or "build it yourself," add that sentence right after line 1. That gap will make the copy feel generic more than any single phrase.
without
The three blocks share the same tics: "Not because X. Because Y." fragments, stacked "no ___, no ___, no ___" lists, and generic claims with no specifics. Here are rewrites that keep your facts but sound like a person wrote them. **1.** > Somewhere in your agency there's a folder of campaign ideas that never launched. Each one needed a developer, and the developer was busy. **2.** > There's no onboarding call to book, no spreadsheet template to fill in, and no contract to sign. Approvals don't run through your inbox either. **3.** > Connect your ad accounts once. Reports, alerts, and client dashboards read from them directly, so nothing gets exported and there's no second copy of the data to keep in sync. **What I changed** - **#1:** Replaced the fragment pair with one cause-and-effect sentence. "Most agencies" is an unprovable generalization, so I made it "your agency." - **#2:** Cut the machine-gun rhythm. The tacked-on "No contract." works as a punchline only once, and here it came after a list that was already doing the same thing. - **#3:** Merged the two stacked lists (three nouns, then three negations) into one sentence with one list. I dropped "manual refresh" because "update directly" already implies it. **Caveats** - I assumed in #2 that approvals don't run through email. If that's wrong, cut that sentence. - The strongest fix for "AI slop" is specificity, which only your client can supply. For example, in #1, what did the developer actually have to build (landing pages, tracking, audience syncs)? In #3, which ad platforms? "Connect Google Ads and Meta once" beats "your ad accounts." A real number helps too, like "launch in an afternoon instead of a sprint."

“Run your AI-slop check on this landing page section before it ships. Only change what actually needs changing. Headline: Close the books in two days instead of ten. Subhead: Ledgerly matches bank transactions to invoices every night, keeping your existing account codes. CTA: Start a 14-day trial. No card required. Features: Bank matching, approval routing, and audit trails. FAQ: Does it work with NetSuite? Yes. It syncs both ways every hour.”

creator-9

“Just fix the headline, it feels flat. Leave the rest alone. Headline: Better invoicing for small agencies Subhead: Ledgerly sends invoices the day a project milestone closes and chases late payers for you, so most clients pay within 9 days. Body: We built Ledgerly after our own agency waited 61 days on a $40k invoice. Connect Asana or ClickUp, pick which milestones bill, and Ledgerly drafts the invoice for you to approve. CTA: Start a 14-day trial”
