copy-editing

what it does

When the user wants to edit, review, or improve existing marketing copy, or refresh outdated content. Also use when the user mentions 'edit this copy,' 'review my copy,' 'copy feedback,' 'proofread,' 'polish this,' 'make this better,' 'copy sweep,' 'tighten this up,' 'this reads awkwardly,' 'clean up this text,' 'too wordy,' 'sharpen the messaging,' 'refresh this content,' 'update this page,' 'this content is outdated,' or 'content audit,' 'this sounds like AI,' 'AI slop,' 'de-slop this,' or 'make it sound human.' Use this when the user already has copy and wants it improved or refreshed rather than rewritten from scratch. Every edit removes AI tells such as 'it's not X, it's Y' reveals, 'no X, no Y, no Z' lists, and sentences that trail into extra comma clauses. A request to fix one line gets a point edit that changes only that line. For writing new copy, see copywriting.

Same request, same model, once with the skill and once without. Read both and judge for yourself.

“edit this product description, it feels too long and wordy: 'Our comprehensive project management solution provides teams with a robust set of tools that enable them to efficiently plan, execute, and monitor their projects from start to finish. With our intuitive interface, powerful analytics dashboard, and seamless integration capabilities, you can ensure that every aspect of your project is managed with precision and care. Whether you're a small startup or a large enterprise, our platform scales to meet your unique needs and requirements, helping you deliver projects on time and within budget every single time.'”

with the skill
## Edited version > Plan, run, and track your projects in one place. The analytics dashboard shows where every project stands, and integrations connect it to the tools your team already uses. It scales from small startups to large enterprises, so deadlines and budgets stay under control as your team grows. That's about 50 words, down from about 95. ## What changed and why - **Cut the filler.** "Comprehensive," "robust set of tools," "enable them to efficiently," and "precision and care" described the product without telling the reader anything. "Plan, execute, and monitor... from start to finish" became "plan, run, and track... in one place." - **Cut the stock phrases.** "Whether you're a small startup or a large enterprise" and "unique needs and requirements" are boilerplate. The scaling claim now makes its point in one clause. - **Replaced "seamless integration capabilities" with "integrations connect it to the tools your team already uses."** This says what integrations do for the reader. - **Softened "on time and within budget every single time."** It's a guarantee you almost certainly can't back up, and readers discount it. The new line promises control, not perfection. - **Dropped "intuitive" and "powerful."** Neither can be checked. A fact would do more work here (see below). ## Where it could be stronger The rewrite is tighter, but it's still generic because the original gave me no specifics, and I didn't want to invent any. If you can fill these in, the copy gets much better: - `[NEED: which integrations]` Name two or three (Slack, Google Workspace, Jira?). It's more convincing than "integrations." - `[NEED: what the dashboard shows]` For example, "budget burn and overdue tasks at a glance."
Show the rest (6 more lines)
- `[NEED: proof]` A customer count, a result ("teams ship 20% faster"), or a short quote would back up the on-time, on-budget promise. - `[NEED: what makes it different]` Nothing here separates it from any other project management tool. One concrete differentiator would do more than any rewording. If you need something shorter for a card or meta description: > Plan, run, and track projects in one place, with a live dashboard and integrations for the tools your team already uses.

**Edited version:** "Plan, execute, and monitor projects from start to finish with our all-in-one project management platform. An intuitive interface, powerful analytics, and seamless integrations keep every detail on track. Whether you're a startup or an enterprise, it scales to fit your needs and helps you deliver on time and on budget." **What I changed:** - **Cut filler phrases** like "comprehensive," "robust set of tools that enable them to," and "precision and care" - **Led with the action** instead of describing what the solution "provides" - **Merged redundancies** such as "unique needs and requirements" became "your needs" - **Dropped "every single time,"** which is an overpromise that can undermine credibility This cuts it from about 95 words to about 55. If you'd like it even tighter, here's a short version: "Plan, track, and deliver projects on time and on budget. Our intuitive platform combines powerful analytics and seamless integrations, and it scales from startups to enterprises."

“Write fresh homepage copy for our new product. We're launching a CRM for real estate agents.”

creator-7

“My client says this copy reads like AI slop. Fix it: 1. Most agencies have a folder of campaign ideas nobody will ever launch. Not because they're bad ideas. Because each one needs a developer. 2. No onboarding call, no spreadsheet templates, no chasing approvals by email. No contract. 3. Reports, alerts, and client dashboards all update straight from the ad accounts you already connected, no exports, no manual refresh, no second copy of the data to maintain.”

creator-8

“Run your AI-slop check on this landing page section before it ships. Only change what actually needs changing. Headline: Close the books in two days instead of ten. Subhead: Ledgerly matches bank transactions to invoices every night, keeping your existing account codes. CTA: Start a 14-day trial. No card required. Features: Bank matching, approval routing, and audit trails. FAQ: Does it work with NetSuite? Yes. It syncs both ways every hour.”

creator-9

“Just fix the headline, it feels flat. Leave the rest alone. Headline: Better invoicing for small agencies Subhead: Ledgerly sends invoices the day a project milestone closes and chases late payers for you, so most clients pay within 9 days. Body: We built Ledgerly after our own agency waited 61 days on a $40k invoice. Connect Asana or ClickUp, pick which milestones bill, and Ledgerly drafts the invoice for you to approve. CTA: Start a 14-day trial”
